There are many different approaches to fitness.  Many of them actually DO work.  But my biggest problem with them is that they take too long before I see any tangible results.  Maybe my attitude is what’s wrong with American health in general.  But it’s true.  We are busy people with more daily distractions than any time in history.

This website focuses on how you get FAST results first.  I focus on health in a 3 step process.

Step 1:

Lose the excess weight that you have first.

Many people have the same fitness goals, and they don’t know where to start.  It’s one thing to say, “I want to look good in a suit,” or “I want to have a flat stomach.”  It’s another thing to be able to take your lifestyle and change it in precise ways to actually GET the result you want.

This is where the hidden nutrients come in.  If you are overweight, you can safely assume that your diet is too full of macronutrients, and that you aren’t getting enough micronutrients.

What’s the difference?

Macronutrients are the standard components of the food you eat.  Protein, carbs, and fats are all macronutrients.  Micronutrients are vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and all sorts of other goodies that your body needs to stay healthy (and fit).

Step 2:

I have tried several diets over the past 4 years, and I can share with you a combination of things that have worked for me.  Specifically, I was able to take the 10 pounds of weight lost in my first 10 days and keep it off for another 2 weeks.  At that point, my body had adjusted to it’s new equilibrium.

After two weeks of stable weight, I tried step 1 again and lost an additional six pounds.  My total weight lost in 4 weeks was 15 pounds.  I went from looking very chubby as the best man at my friend’s wedding, to looking more chiseled in my own engagement pictures just a few weeks later.

Simply put, I started this process weighing 221 pounds.  My weigh in 4 weeks later: 206 pounds.  (This was at the same time of day, without any dehydration or other drastic weight cutting methods.)  I lost fifteen pounds of pure fat, erased from my body in just one month.  

I could stop there, but I decided to take it one step further and create a complete solution.  This brings us to step 3…

Step 3:

Start an exercise program that helps you build the physique you would like to have.  

We all have our preferences on what looks good.  Some guys like the skinny rockstar look, while other guys prefer to look like beefed up jocks.  I’m not saying what’s right or wrong, but I prefer to be somewhere in between.  Ideally, I would like to look like one of the Spartans from 300.  Or maybe Brad Pitt from Fight Club.

But there is one common thread among each of the looks described above – they don’t have much fat on their bodies.  Regardless of size, I think most guys would like to look cut and most women want to look toned.  And even if you aren’t ripped, I believe that we all want to at least look good in the clothes we wear every day.

I have done research on various workout programs, both online and offline, and I will break down the pros and cons of each.  There are a few basic principles that hold constant with any successful workout, and you will learn those as well.

In the meantime, focus on losing fat first and then add muscle later if you wish.
